AI-Based Image Generation Contest

As part of the World Space Week celebrations, CALYPSO GCEK hosted an AI-Based Image Generation Contest, inviting participants to merge their creative instincts with the power of artificial intelligence.

Theme: Life After 2049

Participants were challenged to explore futuristic landscapes, societies, and technologies through AI-generated visuals, showcasing imaginative interpretations of a post-2049 world.

This online contest aimed to spark innovation at the intersection of science fiction, design, and technology.

Solar Eclipse

A solar eclipse, a rare and breathtaking phenomenon, graced the sky with its presence. To witness this awe-inspiring event, a group of 10-20 students gathered together on the terrace of the PG block from 5pm-6pm.

To ensure the safety of everyone's eyes, the event organizers provided sun glass filters for everyone to witness the solar eclipse safely. The students were mesmerized as they watched the moon obscure the sun, creating a remarkable ring of fire effect. The sky turned a deep shade of orange, and the temperature dropped, creating a surreal atmosphere that the students would remember for a lifetime.

The solar eclipse was a rare and unique experience that brought everyone together to witness the beauty and magic of the universe. It was a reminder of how small we are in this vast universe and how extraordinary events like these can unite us all.


A Night Of Star Gazing @ Astro Payyanur

Calypso GCEK held a night of star gazing at Astro Payyanur during Space Week, attended by 22 students and execs. The program began with an interesting lecture by the founder of Astro Payyanur. After dinner at 7:30 P.M., we visited the mini planetarium and learned about various constellations. We returned to the seminar hall for the next session, but our star gazing was unfortunately interrupted due to cloudy skies. The next session on astrology was held at 4:30 A.M. with Mr. Gangadharan, who emphasized the importance of not blindly following astrological beliefs.


Callisto

Callisto' - a space quiz was conducted offline at the Mech seminar hall. Around 20 students joined in to participate in this thrilling and informative event.

The quiz consisted of several rounds that included questions from various domains of space. The rounds were designed to test the students' knowledge and understanding of the universe, space exploration, astronomy, and astrophysics. The event was not only informative but also engaging and interactive, with the participants actively involved in answering the questions.


ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST

An Astrophotography contest was conducted that invited students to showcase their skills and passion for capturing the wonders of the universe through photography. Several students submitted their entries, each one showcasing their unique perspective and creativity.

The entries were judged based on their technical skill, artistic flair, and ability to convey a sense of wonder and awe about the universe.


Galactic

Galactic, a small quiz competition, was held on 25th July 2022 at Mech Seminar Hall in GCE Kannur. The event saw the participation of around 20 enthusiastic students who were eager to showcase their knowledge and win the competition.
The competition was designed to test the participants' knowledge on a wide range of topics, including general knowledge, current affairs, science, and technology. The quiz was conducted in multiple rounds, and each round had a different set of questions that challenged the participants' knowledge and wit.
After a keenly contested competition, the team "Asuraputhrans" emerged as the winners of the quiz. The team comprised of Mridul Mahes (S2 ME), Soorydeeo AV (S2 ME), and Gokul Sourav (S2 ME). They demonstrated excellent teamwork and answered most of the questions correctly, which helped them clinch the victory.
The event was well-organized and received positive feedback from both the participants and the audience. It provided an excellent platform for students to showcase their knowledge and foster healthy competition. Overall, Galactic was an exciting and memorable event that showcased the intelligence and creativity of the participants.


AIRBORNE2.0

Airborne 2.0 was a webinar organized by our club in association with CEAAK Bangalore on Emerging Technologies in Aerospace and Aviation. The speaker was Mr Satheesh Palakkeel, Deputy General Manager, HCL Technologies Ltd, Bangalore. The event was organized by Punya Jayarajan (S3 ECE) and Sneha P (S3 ECE) through Google Meet with more than 40 members.


Swearing In Ceremony

We recently hosted a swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected executive committee of the space club named Calypso. The event was presided over by Santhwana Sunil of the Civil department, who served as the host for the event.
The ceremony started with a warm welcome address by the chairperson, who expressed her enthusiasm and support for the space club and its members. The Secretary then read out the yearly report, highlighting the various events and activities that the club had undertaken throughout the year.
The faculty in charge, Kishore sir, gave a few words of encouragement to the new executive committee, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and dedication in achieving their goals. Other faculty advisors also gave their words of wisdom and inspiration, encouraging the new team to work towards their vision and goals.
Finally, the vote of thanks was given by the Vice Chairperson, expressing her gratitude to all those who made the event possible and wishing the new executive committee the best of luck in their future endeavors.


Artemis

We recently conducted an exciting virtual space treasure hunt that consisted of two rounds, both conducted online. The event was designed to engage and inspire the students and to promote their interest in space exploration and education.
The first round of the treasure hunt was a simple but fun challenge, where the students had to find hidden clues and solve puzzles related to space. The participants were given a set of clues, and they had to use their problem-solving skills and creativity to decipher the clues and find the treasure.
The second round was a quiz that tested the students' knowledge and understanding of space and astronomy. The quiz was designed to be challenging and thought-provoking, with questions ranging from basic concepts to advanced topics.

CALYPSO GCEK proudly organized an All Kerala Astrophotography Contest, inviting participants across the state to capture and celebrate the awe-inspiring wonders of the night sky. Open to photographers of all skill levels, the contest provided a platform to showcase technical prowess and artistic vision in astronomical imaging.

Participants were encouraged to submit their entries under the following celestial categories:

To mark its first anniversary, CALYPSO GCEK organized HELIOS, an engaging online talk titled "A Journey Through the Solar System." The event was held on 5th December 2021 at 7 PM, bringing together space enthusiasts for a guided voyage across our celestial neighborhood.

The session featured Dr. Vaisakhan Thampi, Assistant Professor at MG University and a noted science communicator, who captivated the audience with insights into planetary science and interplanetary exploration.

HELIOS celebrated not just the milestone of the club, but also its continued commitment to science outreach and sparking curiosity about space among students.

An Online Space Quiz by CALYPSO GCEK

On 9th October at 7 PM, CALYPSO GCEK conducted PANDORA, an online space quiz aimed at engaging space enthusiasts and testing their knowledge of space science and exploration. Hosted via Google Forms, the event provided participants with an interactive platform to challenge their understanding of the cosmos.

The quiz fostered a spirit of curiosity and learning, encouraging students to delve deeper into the mysteries of space. Registration was open to all interested participants, ensuring a diverse and enthusiastic audience.

Selene was an engaging moon quiz competition organized by Calypso GCEK on 3rd September 2021 at 7 PM IST. Designed for space enthusiasts, the event aimed to challenge participants' knowledge about the Moon. Conducted online via Google Forms, it provided a platform for students to test their lunar facts and astronomy insight. Registration closed a few hours before the event, emphasizing promptness and enthusiasm. It was another step by Calypso GCEK in promoting space awareness through fun, interactive learning.

Interactive Alumni Session on Aircraft Engine Design

On 9th May 2021, Calypso – The Space Club of GCEK, in collaboration with the 1999–2003 alumni batch of GCEK, organized a high-impact technical session titled AIRBORNE.

In an era where the red planet is no longer a distant dream but a tangible goal, Calypso – the Space Club of GCEK, launched TECHNI, a concept art competition designed to ignite imagination and creativity around the idea of human colonization on Mars.

Themed "The First Human on Mars", the contest invited participants to channel their artistic instincts into visualizing the historic moment humanity sets foot on Mars. Whether drawn from science fiction, speculative design, or futuristic realism, the entries reflected diverse, innovative visions of our interplanetary future.

Hosted online, TECHNI captured the attention of students eager to blend science, creativity, and storytelling—making it not just a competition, but a celebration of what space exploration could look like when art meets aspiration.


ZATHURA

(Outer Space-Themed Crossword Competition)

In our ongoing mission to spark curiosity and promote knowledge of the cosmos, Calypso – the Space Club of GCEK, organized a brain-teasing event titled ZATHURA, an out-of-this-world crossword competition themed entirely on space and astronomy.

Held virtually on 27th February 2021 at 7:00 PM, ZATHURA challenged participants to decode, decipher, and dominate a cleverly constructed grid of celestial clues. The event tested not only memory and subject knowledge but also pattern recognition and quick thinking—delivering a thrilling experience for every space nerd involved.

From satellites to supernovae, from constellations to cosmic events, the crossword puzzle was curated to stretch participants' astro-knowledge in an entertaining, gamified format.

This event was exclusively for GCEK students, ensuring a high level of engagement and a close-knit competitive atmosphere.

Space Hunt - An Online Space Quiz

We organized an electrifying virtual space quiz competition titled Space Hunt, hosted by Calypso – the Space Club of GCEK. The event was designed with a dual objective: to ignite curiosity about the cosmos and to challenge participants through an immersive online experience.

Space Hunt was structured into two impactful rounds, both conducted virtually to ensure maximum reach and participation.

Round 1 – The Cosmic Chase

The first round was an engaging puzzle trail where participants navigated through cryptic, space-themed clues scattered across a digital landscape. The clues were embedded in riddles, visual puzzles, and encrypted messages that tested logical reasoning and out-of-the-box thinking. Each clue brought them closer to the final code—a virtual “cosmic treasure” waiting to be unlocked.

Participants had to collaborate, decode, and race against time to complete the challenge. This round blended space trivia with problem-solving intensity, ensuring a fun-yet-challenging entry.
